For years, Venice's vibrant graffiti scene has been threatened by civic organizations, real-estate developers, and law-enforcement officials, all of whom would like to see the art form halted for different reasons. Graf-advocates In Creative Unity (ICU) gave the Venice graffiti pit a new degree of legitimacy a few years ago by transforming it into the Public Art Walls, but now budget cuts threaten the funding required to keep the spot alive. Tonight, nearly 50 artists, from Robbie Conal to Mear One, have donated work to be auctioned off by Culture Clash's Richard Montoya. The cash should tide the Walls over while ICU works out a more permanent solution. – Shana Nys Dambrot
