Well, now that you put it that way...

Lion of Panjshir w/ Mia Doi Todd @ Tangier

Singer/songwriter duo Lion of Panjshir are much more than the sum of their parts. The turbulent history and ancient culture of Delawari's native Afghanistan forms the foundation for Ariana Delawari and Max Guirand's unhurried, ever-evolving urban alt-folk. Tonight, the pair wraps up a monthlong residency with special guest Mia Doi Todd, herself an LA icon of leftfield art and wispy, gorgeous folk-rock. – Shana Nys Dambrot
Aquarium Drunkard presents MISSION OF BURMA performing “Vs” / HANK IV @ ECHOPLEX
Mission of Burma [Listen]
Mission of Burma helped define early-80s post-punk, adding tape manipulation to the typical guitar-bass-drums and pushing punk’s limits without compromising its rebellious spirit. Now almost 30 years later, the band’s debut album Vs. remains a staple. - Pitchfork
Inspiration to guitar-dads everywhere, Mission of Burma prove the rock doesn't have to stop on the other side of the hill. 2004 comeback album OnOffOn was unanimously received as a worthy addition to the band's oeuvre — an exception to the typically cash-centric rule of rock reunions. Live, the regrouped Bostonians sacrifice little of the feedbacked vitriol that made 1982's Vs. a post-punk landmark, espousing the same noise-as-hooks ethos that set them apart from the chord-mangling pack in the first place. You might not get all the old hits tonight, but, then, you'll probably be too busy flailing to fresh material and an inevitably epic rendition of "That's When I Reach for My Revolver" to notice. – Nick Earhart

Oh My Rockness presents RA RA RIOT / TUSSLE / WALTER MEEGO / LEMONADE @ ECHO

Ra Ra Riot [Listen]
The band played and sang with completely unself-conscious abandon. I know that this is what we expect of all bands, especially bands that project Ra Ra Riot’s brand of catchy rockness, but here genuine excitement and genuine gratefulness shined through the players’ faces. They rampaged around the stage, knocking into each, dancing around, hugging, singing. They looked like an amoeba stuck under glass, constantly pushing out and reshaping itself at its periphery but always remaining stuck together. Or a less ridiculous metaphor: it was a living room dance party with really close friends and family. They presented themselves as a model for the kind of life we’d all like to have: togetherness, happiness, and boundless energy. - Loose Record
Following the untimely death of drummer John Pike last summer, fans of Syracuse's Ra Ra Riot feared that the band might not survive the tragedy. But the quintet carried on, propelled by the buzz it generated at 2007's SXSW and as opener for Tokyo Police Club and Editors. Without naming a replacement drummer, Ra Ra Riot released their full-length debut, The Rhumb Line, last month. Packed with grand violin swells and crystal-clear melodies, the record recalls Arcade Fire's lush orchestral beauty and Vampire Weekend's quirky hooks. Walter Meego, also celebrating the release of their first LP, open the show with ample doses of their sugary, goofy synth-pop. – Connie Hwong

Mr. Funky: Super Plush
Ghettogloss

At most galleries and museums, squeezing the art is most definitely at the top of the list of "don'ts" — but then, Ghettogloss has always prided itself on doing things a bit differently. Its latest exhibition focuses on the art of soft sculpture (think less Claes Oldenburg, more Hello Kitty) and displays the work of 22 artists. Highlights include ever-so-touchable handmade dolls, robots, and other creatures, including pieces from Mr. Funky, the clothing/stuffed-animal label created by designer Narumi Ogawa. The festive opening reception features an appearance from Mr. Funky himself, cocktails, and a set by DJ Lance Rock. – Ashley Tibbits
