Gone are the days when we could scoff at an actor's experiments in pop music. Whereas records from the likes of William Shatner or Eddie Murphy might have once been good for laughs, today's crop of young Hollywood types seeking rock stardom (i.e., Zooey Deschanel) actually has the chops to pull it off. Douglas Smith from HBO's Big Love leads a band called his Orchestra, populated with kindred spirits — including fellow actor Raviv Ullman — dedicated to making the kind of charming piano-driven pop Richard Harris only wishes he had left out in the rain. - Eric J.
