JENNY LEWIS / JONATHAN WILSON / THE BELLE BRIGADE @ Spaceland
Jenny Lewis [Listen] [Watch]
She’s got hair the color of a Pacific sunset, a voice as sweet as an ice cream cone, and a wit sharper than a razorblade. Most days (and nights) you can find Jenny Lewis singing and playing with Rilo Kiley, a glorious quartet whose third album, 2004’s More Adventurous, has charmed and delighted fans and peers worldwide. 2005 alone saw Rilo Kiley garner accolades from heroes (Elvis Costello), magazine covers by the fistful, and a spot opening for Coldplay on their recent sold-out arena tour. But in the tiny moments between the stage and the studio, after the photo shoots but before the bars, Jenny spends time by herself, daydreaming and strumming on her acoustic guitar. And the sound of that time alone is Rabbit Fur Coat, Jenny’s first solo album and one of the most bewitching and intoxicating discs of music you’ve heard in years.

Gloria Molina, Deputy DA Steven Gates and their anti-taco supporters plan to make the taco truck ban a central component of the County Board of Supervisors fall term.
The AP reports:
“All there is to say right now is that we have filed a motion for reconsideration, requesting that the court reconsider its previous ruling,” said Deputy District Attorney Steven Gates. He declined to discuss the basis of Monday’s appeal but said the county requested a hearing Sept. 19.“We will definitely oppose,” said attorney Philip C. Greenwald, who represents the taco truck drivers.
As we told you last month, the battle has been won but the war is on and getting hotter then ever. Taco lifestylers must be ready to defend the Taqueros of East LA and other unincorporated areas of the city at a moment’s notice. We know we can count on our readers to do the right thing and oppose Molina and her minions. Fight on! - LA TACO
Online action figure purveyor Herobuilders, which has a line of popular dolls modelled on politicians of note, has unveiled its latest creation - a 30cm plastic doll of Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
The company offers John McCain and Barack Obama effigies in the classic 30cm plastic format and as cuddly 20cm plush dolls.
So far, Ms Palin is available only as a 30cm doll, but she comes in three outfits: a conservative suit, a slightly sexed-up schoolgirl look, and as a gun-toting superhero clad in a black trench coat. The company is working on a doll based on Ms Palin's Democratic counterpart, Joe Biden.
"We are having trouble re-creating his hairline (but) the entire design team is working diligently on the problem," Herobuilders president Emil Vicale said, referring to rumours of Senator Biden's botched hair transplant. - MCT

Vote for Light FM to play Detour Festival!
Hey all,
So the LA Weekly/Detour Festival has chosen LIGHT FM to participate in their BYOB(Bring Your Own Band) contest! It's really really awesome that they chose us, but now the hard part is getting everyone I know to vote for us.The voting goes like this:
You can vote once a day from the same computer/ISP. So for example, if you had two email accounts, you would have to go to two different locations in order for both votes to count.
But honestly, I'd be happy if you just voted once a day until the contest ends in a few weeks.
The actual Detour Festival is on OCT 4 in Downtown LA. Lots of great bands will be playing(the Mars Volta, Datarock, Gogol Bordello), and we would be beyond ecstatic to share the stage with them.
It's gonna take a lot of votes in order for us to win, and I'm sure somebody in one of the bands works at some office with a hundred different ISP's, so there's a big chance this whole thing could be a pointless exercise and very much like a high school popularity contest, but you have no idea how much we would love to play the Detour Festival.
Sooo, go vote! And then put a little post-it note on your computer and vote again every morning.
I would do it for you. I swear.
Love - Kim

¡¡¡ MARK YOUR CALENDARS !!!
Old Man Markley isn't an old man at all, but rather a young, unsigned, eleven-member group working in such homespun instruments as kazoo, train whistle, autoharp, and washboard alongside more traditional pickin’ ‘n’ grinnin’ with banjos, fiddles, bass and drums. It’s a hoedown and a throwdown and it’ll keep ya from feelin’ lowdown. -TheKnitLA on LastFM.com
