Ann Magnuson and Adam Dugas: Dueling Harps
Redcat

A darkly elegant evening of gorgeous melodies with a theatrical flourish. Ann Magnuson and Adam Dugas face off on vocals as Alexander Rannie and Mia Theodoratus strum their harps in this twisted match of musical one-upmanship. The quartet thrusts and parries with an arsenal of tunes ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime: psychedelic calls to prayer, Henry Purcell's Baroque art songs, Kraftwerk, Buffy St. Marie, Lee Hazlewood and Pink Floyd, as well as original songs by Magnuson and Dugas. New York art star-turned-L.A. Woman, Magnuson is a prolific writer and actress of stage and screen and the former lead singer of the band Bongwater. Dashing underground cabaret impresario Adam Dugas was a founding member of the performance troupe The Citizens Band and frequently produces and performs at Deitch Projects gallery. Watch as Magnuson and Los Angeles composer and artist Rannie defend the home turf against East Coast crooner Dugas and comely musician Theodoratus. There will be blood.
L'Absinthe C'est La Morte
Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Once again, the days of sipping absinthe are upon us. The almost century-old ban on the favorite drink of Toulouse-Lautrec and Oscar Wilde was lifted last year, making it the centerpiece of L'Absinthe C'est La Mort, a semi-swanky, dress-up affair being held inside the cathedral mausoleum of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Although the beverage is more temperate than in its heyday, the promise of "bizarre visuals" and a Masonic ritual may have partygoers believing that the green fairy has alighted on their dizzy heads. Janet Klein and her Parlor Boys enhance the night with naughty, vaudeville-era tunes.

Echo Park Named One of Top 10 Great Neighborhoods

And when you hear that, you might find yourself asking which Realtor came up with that ranking. Luckily, this time there is some creditability behind the designation: the American Planning Association. They "singled out Echo Park because of its breathtaking topography set in the hills above downtown, historic architecture, pedestrian-oriented streets and stairways, and engaged residents who, over the years, have gone to great lengths to protect and preserve their community," according to an APA release (add: their website has more info and history on why EP was chosen) .... more after you click on the image!
