Download/Listen: The Black Keys vs. Big Boi by The Brothers of Chico Dusty
The Brothers of Chico Dusty (Big Boi vs. The Black Keys) by wick-it
From Exclaim.ca's Gregory Adams: Time will tell if this mixtape will become as legendary as Danger Mouse's Jay-Z and the Beatles mash-up The Grey Album, but The Brothers of Chico Dusty does combine the best parts of two of our favourite albums this year. As you probably guessed, producer Wick-It The Instigator has wrapped the blues rock melodies of the Black Keys' Brothers record with Big Boi's verses on Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, and the results are surprisingly awesome.
Some of the highlights on the eight-song set include the sped-up soul licks backing Big Boi's fast-paced flow on "Go Get Tangerine" and the gear-grinding Middle Eastern boom bap of "Afraid of the General." "Everlasting Shine Blockaz" manages to throw a sample from '70s flick The Warriors into the mix as well. Unless a legitimate collaboration comes down the pipeline, this could be the only time you get a taste of this Akron-Atlanta connection.
You can stream and download the set below courtesy of Nah Right.
